Nathaniel Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown - 905 Words

Though Nathaniel Hawthorne is an author of many great works, his short story â€Å"Young Goodman Brown† still stays relevant because it has themes and subjects that are relatable in today s world. In the story â€Å"Young Goodman Brown,† Goodman Brown leaves his wife Faith, to go into the woods near Salem to have a meeting with the devil. Appearance vs. reality is shown in â€Å"Young Goodman Brown† through the plot, the character of Goody Cloyse, and the symbol of the maple staff. The character Goody Cloyse is a perfect example of appearance vs. reality. Goody Cloyse was close with the church and was also a very Catholic woman. She had been Goodman Brown’s catechism teacher when he was younger and was still his spiritual supervisor. â€Å"My broomstick hath strangely disappeared, stolen, as I suspect, by that unhanged witch, Goody Cory, and that, too, when I was all anointed with the juice of a smallage and cinque-foil and wolf’s bane.† In this, we find out that Goody Cloyse is much different than what she appears to be back in Salem. The fact that Goody is appearing as this evil witch figure is showing that she is not what people thought of her to be. She had an evil side that she hid by pretending to be a catechism teacher and spiritual leader. â€Å"‘Ah, your worship knows the recipe,’ cries the old lady, cackling aloud† (Hawthorne 201). The reality of this whole situation is that it was not Goody’s first time meeting the devil. She even calls him ‘your worship’ which may meanShow MoreRelatedNathaniel Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown1543 Words   |  7 PagesIn Nathaniel Hawthorne s short story of Young Goodman Brown, the author uses symbolism and allegories in order to showcase the Puritan faith as well as man s conflict between good and evil. Benefits Of Paying College Athletes - 1576 Words

Paying College Athletes For over a decade, there has been an ongoing debate for and against paying college athletes. Those in favor quickly point out the benefits to players. Those against this practice concentrate on the possible detriment to both the educational and athletic systems currently in place at institutions of higher learning. Merit can be found in both arguments; however, the changes that would be necessary to put the payment practice into place would take years to implement. Many current and former athletes and coaches have spoken out publicly in favor of paying athletes a small stipend or salary while they are in college. One of the reasons most frequently cited in favor of payment is the risk of physical injury to the athlete. These injuries can be career ending both on and off the field. If a player is injured during practice or a game and they are unable to continue playing, they are likely to lose their athletic scholarship. Without these scholarships many players would not be able to cover the gap left by their financial aid in their tuition. If the players are paid per game, there may be money available to finish their educations. Because of the severity of some of these injuries, may have to be changed to something less demanding physically that the players are able to do. This could result in a postponed graduation date. These injuries often also lead to extended periods of medical care and expensive medical bills that neither the player nor theShow MoreRelatedShould College Athletes Be Paid?1499 Words   |  6 PagesStudent athletes commonly go to school for one reason: their love for the sport they participate in. What If Exams Were Abolished Free Essays

Exams are tests held for students to show their progress and knowledge in different subjects. These ‘assessments’ are kept at regular periods of time every academic year. But should exams be abolished? What are the advantages and disadvantages of exams? This topic is an argumentative one. We will write a custom essay sample on What If Exams Were Abolished or any similar topic only for you Order Now Let’s see what would happen if tests and examinations were abolished by looking at the advantages and the disadvantages. Disadvantages of exams: 1 . ) Students are stressed due to the pressure of exams. They usually get nervous before the exam itself and end up forgetting everything they studied as soon as they look at the paper due to the tension. 2. ) Some students are able to rote-learn the content. This is unfair to other students as this gets the rote-learners good marks but they don’t actually understand the concept and those who can’t rote-learn aren’t able to score satisfactory marks. 3. ) The pressure of exams has the students cramming the notes and staying up all night to study so that they complete the portion on time. ) The students are also pressured with the hope of their parent’s to get nice marks and they may fall into depression and sometimes they might even commit suicide. These are some of the arguments supporting the disadvantages of exams. Advantages of exams. Students study harder to achieve better marks than their fellow classmates. Exams may pressurize the students but if they do their work properly and on time, they can try harder and work harder to get good marks. 2. If we be honest, the students wouldn’t actually study if exams were abolished. They wouldn’t be worried about the tests, marks or grades and hence, they wouldn’t study. These are some of the arguments supporting the advantages of exams. According to the disadvantages and advantages of examinations mentioned above, respectively, there would be different effects on the students regarding the abolishment of exams. Essay by Florins S. There are five characters who can be linked to the death of Eva Smith Essay There are five characters who can be linked to the death of Eva Smith. All of the members of the Birling family and Sheila Birlings fiancÃÆ' © Gerald Croft. All of these five characters will be looked at separately before an opinion is drawn. Mr. Birling is connected to Eva Smith in the fact that he employed her as a worker in his factory. After Eva led a strike over pay, Mr. Birling fired her and Eva found herself on the streets. Mr. Birlings son Eric found the fact that her father Arthur had fired a woman over such a small dispute over pay as 2 and a half pence. This can be shown when he says, Why shouldnt they try for higher wages? And I dont see why she should have been sacked just because shed a bit more spirit than the others. Mr. Birling stands by himself, believing that he had done the correct thing when he says, I cant accept any responsibility. We will write a custom essay on There are five characters who can be linked to the death of Eva Smith specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Sheila Birling, Arthur Birlings daughter, was the second member of the family to be connected to Eva Smith. Eva Smith was working in a shop called Milwards when Sheila paid a visit there to but a dress. Sheila became displeased with Evas attitude when she caught a glimpse of her smirking at her in the mirror when she was trying a dress on. Sheila complained, and as a regular customer, she got the girl sacked. Sheila took the fact that she had done this to heart and felt exceptionally bitter that she could have done such a thing that may have ended a girls life. This can be shown when she said Dont you understand? And if I could help her now, I would-. Sheila is very shocked when it is revealed to her that Eva Smith took her own life, and Sheila instantly believes that it is all her fault that Eva is now dead, especially because Sheila got Eva fired because she was jealous of her good looks. Eric Birling, Arthur Birlings daughter, was also connected to the death of Eva Smith in and was directly in contact with her, which comes as a great shock to his family when it is revealed on page 49. Eric played a major part in Eva Smiths life for a few months when they were having an affair. During this period, Eva became pregnant with Erics baby. When Eric is told about the death of Eva, it is obvious that he believes that he played no part in her death and that it was all his own mothers fault. This can be shown when he says you killed her. She came to you to protect me à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å" and you turned her away à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å" yes, and you killed her à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å" and the child shed had too à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å" my child à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å" your own grandchild à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å" you killed them both à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å" damn you, damn you -. This passage shows that Eric might have actually felt something for  Eva, in contradiction to what he told the inspector when he said I wasnt in love with her or anything. Eric obviously tried very hard to make life as comfortable as possible for Eva Smith as well, so he may not be one of the major contributors to Evas death, Eric believes that his mother Mrs. Birling is the one who killed Eva. Mrs. Birling, the wife of Arthur Birling, is seen by Eric to be the one to have killed Eva Smith. This is because she turned Eva away from the organisation that she chaired because she felt that the story that Eva Smith was telling was false and that Mrs. Birling also didnt like the fact that Eva had used the name Mrs. Birling when she came in front of the committee. The real Mrs. Birling didnt like this, so she used her power to reject Evas case. Mrs. Birling, however, doesnt think that she has herself to blame for the death of Eva Smith. This can be shown when she says I think she had only herself to blame. Mrs. Birling also felt that she would have done anything wrong even if Eva Smith hadnt used Mrs. Birling as her name. This can be shown where Mrs. Birling says I did nothing that Im ashamed of that wont bear investigationà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦I consider I did my duty. These few examples could argue that Mrs. Birling is quite arrogant and believes that she is always right and that anyth ing she does will never need justifying. .u6a6fb13561791bee5ae5138d2c35ab27 , .u6a6fb13561791bee5ae5138d2c35ab27 .postImageUrl , .u6a6fb13561791bee5ae5138d2c35ab27 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u6a6fb13561791bee5ae5138d2c35ab27 , .u6a6fb13561791bee5ae5138d2c35ab27:hover , .u6a6fb13561791bee5ae5138d2c35ab27:visited , .u6a6fb13561791bee5ae5138d2c35ab27:active { border:0!important; } .u6a6fb13561791bee5ae5138d2c35ab27 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u6a6fb13561791bee5ae5138d2c35ab27 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u6a6fb13561791bee5ae5138d2c35ab27:active , .u6a6fb13561791bee5ae5138d2c35ab27:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u6a6fb13561791bee5ae5138d2c35ab27 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u6a6fb13561791bee5ae5138d2c35ab27 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u6a6fb13561791bee5ae5138d2c35ab27 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u6a6fb13561791bee5ae5138d2c35ab27 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u6a6fb13561791bee5ae5138d2c35ab27:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u6a6fb13561791bee5ae5138d2c35ab27 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u6a6fb13561791bee5ae5138d2c35ab27 .u6a6fb13561791bee5ae5138d2c35ab27-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u6a6fb13561791bee5ae5138d2c35ab27:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Monologue in Jessica EssayThe last character to investigate is the fiancÃÆ' © of Sheila, Gerald Croft. Gerald is another character who had had very close ties to Eva Smith, or as her name was at this point ion history, Daisy Renton. At the start of his relationship with Sheila, Gerald had an affair with Daisy. It doesnt appear that ht ending of this relationship with Daisy, however, had much to do with the death of Daisy or Eva. This can be shown when Gerald says She told me shed been happier than shed ever been before. This shows that the affair that Daisy had with Gerald didnt really do much for the breaking down of Eva into her taking her own life. This shows that Ge rald didnt really have much to do with the death of Eva Smith, but more with the keeping of Eva Smith happy. All of the five characters were all connected with Eva Smith or Daisy Renton, but only three of them, Sheila, Arthur and Mrs. Birling, made Eva or Daisy unhappy as a consequence of their actions. Arthur fired Eva and put her out onto the streets, but she was happy again when she found another job at Milwards. This means that Arthur shouldnt carry a lot of the blame for the death of Eva. Sheila complained about Eva and succeeded in getting her fired from her new job. This put Eva out onto the streets. This must have brought  her close to unhappiness, but Gerald than had an affair with her, which picked her off the floor and made her happy again. Eric then slept with Eva and got her pregnant, but he supported her with money to make sure that she would be all right. Mrs. Birling then turned Eva Smith away from the help that she desperately required for the caring of the baby that she was going to have. This seemed like the last straw for Eva, and when she was rejected, she felt it was one too many and took her own life. This means that the majority of the blame must lie with Mrs. Birling, although a small part would lie with Arthur for setting the ball rolling, and with Sheila for helping her along the way.

The Trial of Mumia Abu-Jamal essays

The Trial of Mumia Abu-Jamal essays In class, we recently watch a movie on convicted cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal. While the movie was informative, I couldn't help but being a little troubled by it. I began wondering why this man was so dangerous and yet so many people were standing up for him. In order to gain a better understanding of the situation, I visited www.danielfaulkner.com in order to get the other side of the story. I knew I would find some discrepancies between the sides telling their views. I thought these differences would be minimal at best but I was shocked to find out how dissimilar the two viewpoints were. The movie we saw in class was very pro-Mumia. In it, various people talked about the trial, from the witnesses to the attorneys to Mumia Abu-Jamal himself. Throughout the movie, the narrator continually bashed the facts given by the police and the prosecuting attorney Joseph McGill. Whenever they stated a point, the next statement from the narrator was either negative or attempted to prove their statement wrong. However, when the defense attorney Anthony Jackson or any witnesses stated a point beneficial to Mumia, the narrator quickly agreed with their point. Also, these witnesses in the movie were all in support of Mumia Abu-Jamal even though some have changed their stories on a number of occasions. When Mumia himself talked, the narrator backed up his points by use of footage or supporting him further through the testimonies of the other witnesses or Anthony Jackson. Throughout the movie, all points were made clear by both sides. However, the narrator was biased towards o ne side and therefore, got a plethora of opinions instead of the facts surrounding this situation. Overall, the movie disappointed me. After watching the movie and visiting the web site, I have come to the conclusion that Mumia Abu-Jamal is guilty of killing Officer Daniel Faulkner. The movie, to me, gave only one side of the story and heavily favored Mumia Abu-J...

As this word suggests, these are the sections of the patent application where you specify what your machine or process is and how it differs from previous patents and technology. The description starts off with general background information and progresses to more and more detailed information about your machine or process and its parts. By starting with an overview and continuing with increasing levels of detail you guide the reader to a full description of your intellectual property. You must write a complete and thorough description as you cannot add any new information to your patent application once it is filed. If you are required by the patent examiner to make any changes, you can only make changes to the subject matter of your invention that could be reasonably inferred from the original drawings and description. Professional help may be of benefit to ensure maximum protection for your intellectual property. Be careful not to add any misleading information or omit relevant items. Although your drawings are not part of the description (drawings are on separate pages) you should refer to them to explain your machine or process. Where appropriate, include chemical and mathematical formulae in the description. Examples - Looking at Other Patents Helps You With Yours Consider this example of a description of a collapsible tent frame. The applicant begins by giving background information and quoting previous similar patents. The section then continues with a summary of the invention which provides a general description of the tent frame. Following this is a listing of the figures and a detailed description of each element of the tent frame. The description of this patent for an electrical connector is divided into the description of the background of the invention (including the field of the invention and prior art), a summary of the invention, a brief description of the drawings {bottom of page}, and a detailed description of the electrical connector. How to Write the Description Below are some how-to instructions and tips to help get you started writing the description of your invention. When you are satisfied with the description you can begin the claims section of a patent application. Remember that the description and claims are the bulk of your written patent application. When writing the description, use the following order, unless you can describe your invention better or more economically in another way. The order is: TitleTechnical fieldBackground information and prior artDescription of how your invention addresses a technical problemList of figuresA detailed description of your inventionOne example of intended useA sequence listing  (if relevant) To begin, it might be helpful to just jot down brief notes and points to cover from each of the above headings. As you polish your description into its final form, you can use the outline suggested below. Begin on a new page by stating the title of your invention. Make it short, precise and specific. For example, if your invention is a compound, say Carbon tetrachloride not Compound. Avoid calling the invention after yourself or using the words new or improved. Aim to give it a title that can be found by people using a few keywords during a patent searching.Write a broad statement that gives the technical field related to your invention.Continue by offering background information that people will need to: understand, search for, or examine, your invention.Discuss the problems that inventors have faced in this area and how they have attempted to solve them. This is often called giving the prior art. The prior art is the published body of knowledge that relates to your invention. It is at this point that applicants frequently quote previous similar patents.State in general terms how your invention solves one or several of these problems. What you are trying to show is how your invention is new and different. List the drawings giving the figure number and a brief description of what the drawings illustrate. Remember to refer to drawings throughout the detailed description and to use the same reference numbers for each element.Describe your intellectual property in detail. For an apparatus or product, describe each part, how they fit together and how they work together. For a process, describe each step, what you start with, what you need to do to make the change, and the end result. For a compound include the chemical formula, the structure and the process which could be used to make the compound. You need to make the description fit all the possible alternatives that relate to your invention. If a part can be made out of several different materials, say so. You should aim to describe each part in sufficient detail so that someone could reproduce at least one version of your invention.Give an example of an intended use for your invention. You should also include any warnings of commonly u sed in the field that would be necessary to avert failure. If relevant to your type of invention, provide the sequence listing of your compound. The sequence is part of the description and is not included in any drawings. One of the best ways to understand how to write a patent for your type of invention is to take a look at already issued patents. Visit the USPTO online and do a search for patents issued for similar inventions to yours.

Y2K Bug :: essays research papers fc

Computers have become the backbone of the world today. Is there a time bomb slowly ticking down inside of the computers that run everything from your laundry machine to Wall Street? "The year 2000 bug is a flaw in the programming of embedded chips in most electronic devices"(Outsmarting 2). These chips only calculate the date in the ending 2 digits of the year. For instance, the date 1-1-1999 in the computer comes out 1-1-99. "When the year 2000 comes around, the computers will think that it is the year 1900"(2). Any program or system that relies on dates to perform certain functions, such as calculating ages, time periods, or payrolls is at risk of crashing on the stroke of midnight. Programmers in the 1970's were saving a lot of space in programming by only using the last 2 digits of the year. They had no insight into the problem they were creating by cutting this programming corner. The justification for cutting this corner was two fold. First, think of all of the coding and coding time they saved if the date is calculated over 1 million times in a single computation. Second, in those early years, disk storage space was at a premium and severely limited by today's standards. It was important to make the best available use of storage space. For this reason that they entered only the last 2 digits of the year in the old programming. Because only date sensitive programming is at risk, however if or when the Y2K bug hits, the damage will be minimal at most. For those people who plan to move to the country and sell all of their possessions in order to get away from the effect, do not leave just yet. The year 2000 bug will not be the end of the world. Many think that they will start a rural community and it will be their little Garden of Eden. If the year 2000 bug strikes, it will strike everything everywhere, even in rural Montana. The problems will be universal. People believe that they can rely on insurance to cover their assets are facing another problem created by the year 2000 bug. Insurance companies are calling all of their current clients informing them that their coverage does not include losses due to the year 2000 bug. However, lawyers and law firms are gearing up for what they believe will be a windfall, based on millennium bug claims

The Crave for Companionship in of Mice and Men

â€Å"A guy goes nut if he ain’t got nobody. † None of the characters in Of Mice and Men experience true companionship. Discuss. The crave for companionship is a key theme present throughout John Steinbeck’s novella, Of Mice and Men. The great depression is no help when trying to find or keep friendships alive in the rural, country areas of America. George and Lennie depict what true companionship is all about when sticking together through thick and thin.Being the only black man living on the ranch, Crooks finds it hard to relate with others, finding himself separated from the other men. The relationship between Curley and his wife is merely just an unstable marriage that lacks true meaning and love. Desire in many forms is found throughout the novella but companionship is the main one as everyone can be lonely at times. George and Lennie’s companionship contrasts the loneliness that surrounds them on the ranch. Somehow the two men complement each other d espise the lack of compatibility between them.Lennie would call George a friend, but George would find difficulty to call him one back. â€Å"ain’t many guys travel around together† (Slim page 36) this is what Slim tells George when he finds out that he and Lennie travel together. The companions are in search of the American dream which is to own their own piece of land, â€Å"we'd have our own place where we belonged and not sleep in no bunk house† (George page 63) this would put George in control of finally keeping them out of trouble, especially Lennie.George is motivated to stay with Lennie because of his own guilt and the fact that he doesn't want to end up like everyone else on the ranch, alone. George knows that life without Lennie would be so much easier on himself and sometimes he wants the independence of not have to keep his eye on a grown man who has the mind of a child. Unfortunately their great friendship had to end with George killing Lennie. Alth ough it may have seemed to be George protecting himself it was largely to protect Lennie as Curley could have killed him in a more brutal manor.Crooks, â€Å"the negro Stable Buck† (page 66) seems to be the major outcast living on the ranch in Of Mice and Men. He lives in his own room, separated from the bunk house in â€Å"a little shed that leaned off the wall of the barn† (page 66). Crooks was â€Å"a proud, and aloof man† (page 67), bitter and hostile yet very intelligent and wise mainly because of the isolations he faces and his skin colour. When Crooks is faced with the solid figure of Lennie standing in his door way he attempts to lash out at him yelling â€Å"you got no ight to come in my room† (pages 67-68) displaying a large deficiency of communication and trying to indicate to Lennie to leave him alone. As Lennie is misguided by the messages Crooks is trying to send him he enters giving off no bad intentions so the black man lets his guard down . As the conversation carries on Crooks finds Lennie just sees him as another man working at the ranch. Curley's wife's want for friendship has altered her demeanour towards men on the ranch tremendously, making her overtly insecure and excessively flirtatious. The men on the ranch avoid her because of flirtatious personality to keep out of trouble. No one understands her situation and how loneliness affects her. Her insecurity is evident by the way she dresses and utilizes her make-up. She uses her appearance to receive attention like when â€Å"[Curley's Wife] was standing there looking in. She had full, rouged lips and wide-spaced eyes, heavily made up. â€Å"(Steinbeck 32). Curley's Wife feels she must dress this way for people to acknowledge her and give her attention. Her dressing-up is entirely unnecessary because they live on a farm and this is not the typical clothing. Curley does not give his wife enough companionship, love and affection that she desires. This makes her se ek it from other people whining to Lennie in the barn â€Å"Why can't I talk to you? I never get to talk to nobody. I get awful lonely† (page 85). By not talking to anyone and constantly worrying about what Curley will do, she has attained a slyness that does not appeal to anyone on the ranch.Acting in flirtatious ways is the only way Curley's Wife thinks she can deal with her aspirations for a friend. Every human needs a companion, a friend or acquaintance to share his or her thoughts and feelings with, that's what makes us all human. Unfortunately some of us are unable to have this desire that we all dream for, and especially during the depression friends were very scarce. Of Mice and Men shows the ups and downs of friendship, the good times as well as the bad and the limits a friend will go to, to save their friend from anguish.

Quotes to Help Celebrate Teachers Day

A good teacher plays the role of an educator, guide, inspirational guru, and a friend. They gently  nudge the slow learners to climb a steep learning curve, and they engage with the bright minds to delve deeper into concepts  and thereby meet their need to be ahead of others. Teachers tap the fertile mind of young children and plant the seed of curiosity in them. This inculcates the values of self-learning, exploration, and philosophical inquiry. Many young children take the spark of imagination to unimaginable heights. Little origami enthusiasts grow up to become  engineers of cutting-edge technology. Kids  suffering from dyslexia grow up and  became famous surgeons. What Is World Teachers Day? Also known as International Teachers Day, World Teachers Day is held officially each year on October 5 in Canada and more than 100 countries worldwide, but in the United States, it’s held on the first Tuesday of the first full week in May. According to UNESCO (The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), it’s a special day to remind the world that education is a fundamental right that requires qualified teachers — who by the way — are always in demand, especially in remote, rural areas of the world. The day marks the beginning of set standards for teachers and their commitment to the profession to help improve the lives of children. The following quotes are from some famous people in honor of teachers and the lofty profession of teaching: American historians (Henry Brooks Adams, Jacques Barzun); American author (Ken Blanchard); American operatic tenor (Robert Brault); Australian physician (Helen Caldicott); theoretical physicist (Albert Einstein); writers (Johann Wolfgang von Goeth, Nikos Kazantzakis, Dan Rather), Boy Scout administrator (Forest Witcraft); and Irish poet (William Butler Yeats). Henry Brooks Adams A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops. Jacques Barzun In teaching, you cannot see the fruit of a days work. It is invisible and remains so, maybe for twenty years. Ken Blanchard Your role as a leader is even more important than you might imagine. You have the power to help people become winners. Robert Brault The average teacher explains complexity; the gifted teacher reveals simplicity. Helen Caldicott Teachers, I believe, are the most responsible and important members of society because their professional efforts affect the fate of the earth. Albert Einstein It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe A teacher who can arouse a feeling for one single good action, for one single good poem, accomplishes more than he who fills our memory with rows and rows of natural objects, classified with name and form. Nikos Kazantzakis Ideal teachers are those who use themselves as bridges over which they invite their students to cross, then having facilitated their crossing, joyfully collapse, encouraging them to create bridges of their own. Dan Rather The dream begins with a teacher who believes in you, who tugs and pushes and leads you to the next plateau, sometimes poking you with a sharp stick called truth. Forest Witcraft A hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much money I had in the bank, but the world may be a better place because I made a difference in the life of a child. William Butler Yeats Education is not the filling of a pail but the lighting of a fire.
